Very reasonable prices at this restaurant. Lovely food and very friendly staff. It is a bit of the beaten track in St Albans, but when you find it it is well worth it.

I had the most brilliant times at Freddies Restaurant. The food is excellent and it is freshly cooked. Freddie the owner goes weekly to get his own fish and meat from london markets. We been going there for the past 4 years and was never disappointed I don't know what baldy-fatso is talking aboutI reccomend the Scallops in black pudding and the Warm salad of asparagus to follow the Seabass or the filet steak and is definately value for money

We went to Freddie's on a Monday night in October without a booking. My starter of smoked fish in sauce made me wish I'd ordered it for a starter. The main course was beautiful Cornish scallops on delicate black pudding with bacon lardons, sun dried tomatos and broad beans. It was the best meal I've had in the UK for several years. My dining companion had a delicate smoked salmon starter followed by the beef, which was considered "very good" although it didn't produce the Meg Ryan reaction I experienced. Dinner was so good I nearly didn't have a pudding in case it wasn't as good as previously. Luckily after twenty minutes I managed a piece of excellent New York style cheesecake with strawberries and a delicious toffee sauce. My companion had a dark rum creme brulee which was marvellous once he'd found the rum at the bottom. I am going back to Freddies the first chance I get. I am even bothering to write reviews about it, it was that good!

The mains are standard bought-in, frozen, preprepared, catering, "Brake Bros" meals. For people who don't know who "Brake Bros" are they are a catering supplier who deliver frozen, preprepared meals to pubs, etc. The sort of food you could get from any freezer department in any supermarket. You remove the packaging, heat it through and serve. People are often fooled because Freddies put some veg or salad on the plate to hide the main dishes origins. It's not impressive is it? And the prices? Good lord!!!

Friendly atmosphere, fantastic service, brilliant food. I go with my husband twice a week and it's our no 1 restaurant in hertfordshire. I highly recommend the gateau of smoked salmon, crayfish & avocado to start and my husband the scallops with black pudding. As main course the monkfish is ever so tasty and the filett steak is only the best in town. We hardly take any desserts but they all look very good. The price is value for money!
