About

Graham Turner

Fretz Guitar Tuition was established in 1989 in Bradford ,and relocated to a fit-for-purpose music studio in Harrogate several years ago .

My aim is to teach students to their fullest potential, using a syllabus tailored to each student's requirements and interests. Some of my students become full time musicians either in teaching or performing;others just learn for fun!.

I teach a wide variety of styles from classical through to rock, pop, jazz, blues etc, and welcome students of all ages* and abilities.

All my students have the opportunity to take exams up to grade 8 either in classical guitar or electric guitar. I use The Assosiated Board Royal School of Music, and Guild Hall for classical, and I use Rock School for all electric guitar

Price £30 per Hour or £15 per Half Hour

From one of my Students

I am 69 years old. I became entranced by rock & roll , skiffle & jazz electric guitar players inthe mid/late 1950, I bought an old Spanish guitar & learnt to play the basic chordtriads, & play a few melodies, & later acquired an electric guitar. But it seemed to me thesefantastic guitar players I sought to emulate had notes on their guitars that mine did not have!Three & a half years ago I decided to have lessons & by good fortune I picked Graham. I have learnt so much about musical theory & how to use it practically from someone who understandstheory & is a practicing musician, it has been very rewarding. I now know that my guitars have all the notes that the 1950's players had on theirs. Its down to me to use the knowledge, becreative & practice. You do have to practice to improve & learn the theory to be really good. Thanks Graham.

Recording

WOW!!! I think the recordings sound great! Your guitar playing is sooooo beautiful. I love the picking on crazy and also how wonderful you played the Preacher man. You are an inspiration to me to keep playing guitar and to continue taking lessons. I liked my singing on the recording and to be honest, I was quite surprised!

I have been tutored by Graham for 5 years. He is likeable & helpful & has a well equipped studio. He is experieced from a young age in classical, jazz, rock & pop,& has a good tuition mixture of formal & informal. He has extensive professional playing experience with many bands which coupled with his deep understanding of music theory enables him to tailor tuition to personal need & desire. I always look forward to my lessons & play with a small group that Graham guides. When I started with Graham I could play the basic chord triads but knew nothing about scales & thier relationship to chords & impovisation. I have now learnt much about these & am a much better player enjoying the journey.( I used to think the guitar players I idolised had notes on their guitars I didn't have. Now I know this was not so!) Beginner or improver & prepared to pratise go with Graham & get a good mixture of the practical & theoretical. You will have a great time. Paul Ashfield.

"Great Guitar Teacher"

All Guitar Tutors are not created equal! After six months of guitar lessons, I felt as though I wasn't making much progress. I decided to seek another guitar tutor and I haven't looked back! I have been having lessons with Graham for 1 ½ years and have acquired the knowledge, skills, and ability to now confidently play and sing the songs that I enjoy. Graham Turner is an extremely talented and professional musician and tutor, who has the patience and knowledge to get you playing. His method of teaching is practical and structured, but lesson plans are individualized to suit students' interests, needs, and preferences for music. Have a lesson with Graham… you won't regret it!
