Yummy food despite the wait

My husband I went there 13 February 09 at 9.30pm. The restaurant had a large party of girls who had already eaten their main meal and 5 other tables but wanst overly busy. The waitress who greeted and seated us was very friendly and warm. We placed our orders and waited 20 mins for our starters and a further 1/2 for our main course after been told that they lost our order. The food made up for it and was delicious with a good sized portion and fresh ingredients. There was singing, dancing and plate smashing that was nice to see.Despite the wait we will be returning.

Fantastic evening!

In reference to "LeVantage" 's comment, I went there for my birthday and had the most fantastic time! The Elvis impersonator was fantastic! I don't know what you were expecting.. the real Elvis Presley to come and perform for you?! It was a great laugh, and the greek dancers were very authentic and talented. The entertainment was consistent, with belly dancers, greek dancers, singers and customers being pulled up to dress up and join in the fun! The live musicians provided us with both a traditional greek and modern mix of music, including an hour of English disco, which had us all on our feet! The greek meze looked fabulous, I was a bit worried about the menu, being a vegetarian myself. But there was plenty for me to choose from! Including fish. The sea bass was amazing :)The waiters were very attentative and we didn't have to wait long at all for drinks or service.Overall, a brilliant evening! I have returned several times since then and have not yet been disappointed :)

The most Outstanding Kleftico!!!

This has to be one of the best restuarants I have ever had the pleasure of eating in the Hellenic Greek Taverna! The food reminds one that you should slowly savor every taste and texture a meal has to offer your palate. The ambiance and service are second to none with a staff that knows and projects a sense of pride in discribing/serving for/to you this most excellent meal.I truley reccomend the Kleftico as its soft texture melts in your mouth. All my years of experiencing Greek Tavernas i found the Hellenic absolutely breath taking as the entertainment was very cultural, with live music and traditional greek dancers which made the experience more enjoyable for family and friends.

my 40th. birthday party

I had my 40th. birthday party at the Hellenic. There was 30 of us in my party, and I can honestly say we all had a fantastic time.We ordered the traditional greek meze which consisted of lots of different dishes that were brought out in a steady stream throughout the evening - delish!!The Elvis impersonator was hilarious and warmed us up nicely, and then we all got stuck into some traditional greek dancing with a very talented young dancer, who had us all smashing plates. The excellent musicians judged the mood throughout and also provided a session of english disco. We will most definately be returning!!Best Regards, Maria Walker.

I went to the Hellenic about 2 weeks ago. I heard that its not that great but i still wanted to go to get out the house and go and have a bit of fun. So i arrived there at about 7.30 had a drink at the bar then went and sat down ordered starters and mains that all came in great time. I was enjoying myself listening to the dinner music chatting to my friends and then i was just waiting for the show to start. The show had finally started at about 9.30 10.00pm with an Elvis impersonator he was so funny i really enjoyed myself dancing with him. Then after the Greek Dancers came out and done a show which was great, really good because it was different we don't usually go to restaurants and see people smashing plates. they got us all up to dance on the tables and chairs and some people dressed up. The manager came to our table several times asking us how we are and he made us feel very welcomed. They had given our table a free bottle of wine which was very nice a thoughtful. I will defiantly be going there again.

Poor service, decent entertainment!

We recently went to the Hellenic Greek Taverna on Guildford Street in Luton for a work party, and after being told by a couple people that the service was slow, we still decided to go ahead because we fancied some authentic greek food!We got there before our reserved time and were shown our table [not taken there, the waiter stood behind the desk and pointed until we finally got to the correct one] and were seated. We waited to be offered drinks, and one of the waiters finally came over. We placed our drink orders and they finally arrived. All except mine.I had to ask FOUR times to two seperate people for my drink, which I eventually got. A lot of time to wait just for a diet coke!We got around to placing our food orders, and waited about an hour and a half to get our food. 4 of us finally got our main course, while the rest of the party [including the birthday girl!] had to wait a further hour and a bit for theirs! The waiter eventually came over and explained that they'd lost our order and re-took it, and said they would waiver the cost of the main course for these people - Which we were alright with at the time.whilst we waited, there was an array of entertainment including a fake elvis and greek dancers [which really wasnt enough to keep us from yawning and our stomachs grumbling!] - We eventualyl got our food. Decent sized portions but poorly presented. I dont know what took them so long to bring out our plates - Was there just one chef doing it all?!?Nearing on 12.30am we came to pay our bill and noted that they hadn't actually deducted the main course for the delay as promised, but instead gave us a £20 discount for the inconvenience - Pretty poor and unacceptable in our opinions.I ended up arguing with the waiter at the desk and he waived £40 from the bill - It was either that or free desserts [Which I heartily declined because we'd have probably been kept waiting for another hour just for some ice cream].We settled the bill and left disappointed at our work night out being ruined by shoddy service and lying waiters.Fair enough, the waiters were eye candy, BUT we went there for a meal. We arrived at 8.30pm and didnt get served until 11.15pm - Nearly 3 hours of waiting... And after all that, the food wasnt even all that great! We WONT be going back there anytime soon, that's for sure!
