Planning Permission and Building Regulations for Nursing Home Extension.

The green light is on for the extension of a nursing home in Worthing!Having taken the project from initial advice and feasibility study for the Client, all the way through planning the layout, facilities and external appearance to detailed drawings for construction, we now have the green light from local authority planning and building control, and confirmation that all conditions have been satisfied. As the home is situated in a conservation area, there was a need for some careful, sympathetic planning of the external appearance of the extended building, in order to maintain the look of the traditional Victorian street scene, This included a fully glazed 'curtain wall' facade to link two buildings and even a 'character' bicycle parking facility. The requirements of the building regulations also had a significant impact on this project - as the extension primarily consists of an existing Victorian dwelling, not only were various upgrades necessary to meet current building regulations for a modern dwelling, but also for the change of use to a nursing home. These included: access & facilities for disabled people, fire safety requirements and upgrades to thermal and sound insulation. We're pleased to say that all approvals are now in place, and all that remains to be done is to get the builders in! And some residents, of course...

New House Approved By Building Control

1st December saw the approval of another one of our projects by Building Control - a new house added to the end of a terrace in Littlehampton. The detailed plans, sections, structural calculations and SAP (thermal efficiency) assessment provided by Horizon Design were approved by Arun District Council, which means that our Clients can get the builders in to start work on their new house! This maintains the 100% record so far of Horizon Design in obtaining planning permission and building regulations approval on our projects...
