L.C Smales and Son - Organic Farmer & Organic Seeds & Products

The Smales family have farmed at Thornton since 1948 and in 1996 the farm of West Allerdean was added making a total of 279 hectares.

Organic Conversion began in the spring of 1998 at West Allerdean and Thornton followed between April and July 2002 becoming fully organic overall in July 2004. We are registered with Organic Farmers & Growers as UKFO 40517, licensed to grow organic crops, process, clean and store organic produce for third parties.

L.C Smales and Son are organic farmers providing organic seeds, organic drying, organic seed merchants. For Spring 2008, Paragon Wheat (milling),
Riviera Barley (feed), Optic Barley (malting),
Firth Oats (a good milling variety), Fuego
and Nile Beans. All the above are subject to
successful harvest.

L.C Smales Horse Livery....

At Thornton Stables, we offer a full range of services, from DIY livery through to Full livery, including short stay and holiday livery. All liveries include straw/shavings and haylage as standard. We have 16 stables, all within a barn and, being based on a farm, have plenty of easily accessible grazing available. There is a wide choice of peaceful riding on farm tracks and quiet bridle paths, away from the main roads. The yard is BHS approved with secure tack room, toilet facilities and experienced supervision on site 24 hours a day.

Following recent expansion at Smales Secure Storage, we now offer self storage to meet all requirements at affordable prices, complete from archiving through household belongings to classic car storage. We cater for both personal and business use. All of our units are highly secure and weather proof. We are highly flexible, a unit can be hired for as long or short a period as is required.
