The care given in the 8 mins before the paramedics arrive have more impact on survival & recovery than all the care that follows. Employers are now legally responsible for that standard: but first aiders usually hold back hoping someone else will step forward! Better Defibrillator

Only 51% of heart failure casualties have a heart rhythm that can be started with a defibrillator: but the other 49% can acquire the right rhythm if CPR is done well enough: at the right speed and depth.

So the Zoll AED Plus, as well as being a defibrillator, has a third pad that measures the speed and depth of the rescuers chest compressions and it coaches them to excellence in their CPR. It tells them to press harder and it tells them when their CPR is good. It also has a metronome that sets the speed for compressions, but unlike other defib's it knows what speed you are going and it synchronises with you before taking you to the right speed - otherwise you will spend the next 30 compressions trying to catch up: and effectively compressing at the wrong speed.
