The World Health Organisation Chiropractic is defined as a health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustment and other joint and soft tissue manipulation.
Like other health-care providers, chiropractors follow a standard assessment to gain information. A detailed case history is taken, followed by a physical examination, (we may request laboratory analyses and/or scans/x-rays). Chiropractors also conduct a careful analysis of your structure and pay particular attention to the spine and surrounding muscles.
We also ask you about your life to gain information associated with your health and presenting complaint. Do you eat well? What do you do for exercise? How do you deal with stress? Do you have children? What do you do for work? And so on.
Chiropractors typically practice using natural, non-invasive spinal adjustments with soft tissue manipulation and then rely on the body's ability to adapt and self heal.
It is important to remember that, just like your teeth, your spine experiences normal wear and tear, as you walk, drive, sit, lift, sleep, and bend. Routine chiropractic care can help you feel better, move with more freedom, and stay healthier throughout your lifetime.
