Turning Courses
A member of the Register of Professional Turners (RPT) with a recognised teaching qualification (PTLLS), Mark Hancock runs these wood turning course from his well-equipped workshop near Pershore, Worcestershire
Courses can be arranged for all levels of experience from the complete beginner to the more advanced turner with each course specifically designed to meets the student's needs and requirements.
Those that have turning tools are encouraged to bring these along with samples of work to help highlight areas that may need guidance.
All courses deal with:
• selection and use of tools and equipment,
• selection and conversion of timber
• tool sharpening
• design considerations
• finishing
• workshop health and safety
These are hands on courses with the student having access to a wealth of information from a turner with over 25 years of experience including working as a tutor at West Dean College and Warwickshire College, for the AWGB and various locations worldwide.
So if you are starting out and wanting sound advice to avoid costly mistakes or wanting to move forward with turning hollow forms and working with green timber etc.or want to try something new and have a fun day just creating something on the lathe with no fuss, there is a course available.

As a complete novice who had unexpectedly been given a gift of a day's wood turning course with Mark, I was not sure what to expect. However Mark was a personable, gifted teacher with all the patience in the world. With the wood burning stove adding light and warm to the workshop, Mark made me feel very welcome whilst he gently enquired about my knowledge (none!). Yet by the end of the day I am proud to say that I had made a set of four professional looking napkin rings each of which was individually decorated. Having thought about wood turning for some time decided the best way to go about it was to go on a course before spending money on equipment. It was worth every penny for a full day with Mark it was a very informative and well run day with Mark giving so much information it was a job to absorb it all and I now have a good idea of what to buy and what not to buy and Mark is at the end of the phone if ever you need him.
