Summer Music Courses
Music Makers run summer music courses (both day and residential) for children and young musicians aged 5 to 18. The courses are great fun as well as educational, developing abilities and confidence in playing and performing. Based in Wimbledon, Salisbury and Fordingbridge, there is a Junior course for 5/6 year olds, an Intermediate course for 7 to 10 year olds and Senior courses for Grades 2 to 8+ with a residential option. The Musical Director is David Andrews, assisted by a team of experienced staff known for their energy, enthusiasm and abilities to draw the best out of each young musician. The courses are five days long culminating in a presentation concert to parents and friends. For complete beginner or experience children only
Booked our son on the course after we were told he will be having hands on experience on keyboards and recorder. A couple of days in my boy came home in tears as he told the teachers that he played recorders at school for over a year and would like to try on keyboards just a little while. Was told he wasn't even allow to touch any instruments apart from the recorder. We have tried to communicate and seek advise from the owner Elaine several times. Sadly instead of addressing the issue, Elaine was defensive and won't discuss an alternative solution for our boy (money was already paid in full). Didn't offer to either speak to our son (at least show some emotions and kindness to a 8 year old boy) nor considering other options (move to a lower level course that offers more variety of hands on experience.) What disgusts me was instead of communicating with reasons and offer a helping hand as professional, she told us our son wasn't a music type. What a disgrace for what they charge.
