Here at Northern Kilns we are a relatively small family firm, of craft persons dedicated to manufacturing a range of kilns for industrialists through to hobbyists.

Utilising 33 years of manufacturing experience, our in house design team have designed a superior range of specialist kilns for ceramics, glass, enameling and specialist metal processing.

Our team of craftsmen, whose attention to detail and flexibility allows us to custom build to your individual requirements in various formats - front loading, top loading, trolley, top hat and so on.

Our range have similar initial design criteria, they must be comfortable to operate, offering maximum output with sophisticated yet easy to use temperature control.

Our personalised delivery service is second to none, nationwide, specialised and carried out by our experienced staff. We consider delivery to be putting the kiln into position, wiring in, (if the supply and isolation is available), and demonstration of the kiln controls, giving you a full and personal service. This simply means leaving the kiln ready for you to fire when we leave.

We have over the years, developed a strong alliance with other 'smaller' manufacturers and specialists, enabling us all to supply a wide range of materials, equipment and specialist advice, (on articles such as health and safety legislation), all of course supplied with the modern day rarity of the personal touch.

Front Loading Electrric Kilns

Front loaders, traditionally derived from industry, built to work and last, our front loaders are among the finest in the business.

Front loaders are a big favourite, as most things in our domestic life are front loading - cupboards, fridges, washing machines etc. Just as economical as top loaders to fire. Relatively slow to cool - good for pot/ware.

Choose your size or sizes and let's talk. View the kiln as the brawn and the controller as the brain. The kiln will come fitted with a harting socket (male/female socket connecting kiln and controller.) making choosing a controller at point of delivery/collection a much easier option than choosing from the brochure.

Auto damping as apposed to manual damping is available on any 10 programme controller.

As all units are hand made, a choice of hearth height is available, as is choice of which side the door is hinged on.

We offer Custom built sizes, often at no extra cost.

Top Loading Electric Kilns

Top loaders are relatively new on the ceramics scene. They were first introduced as a disposable kiln - yes! use it and throw it away! They were built with minimal, but highly efficient insulation, minimal steel and could be very fast to fire - great if your pots can stand it or are small (not so many stresses across the piece). They also cooled quickly - not always a good thing. However the British, being what we are, took the concept and improved it to the hybrid we see today.

Top loaders offer excellent interior area per £ better than the more industrially derived front loaders.

Our top loaders are built standardly in 3 heights 18'' (2 bricks) 22 1/2'' (2 1/2 bricks) and 27'' (3 bricks) high.
