I decided to go for a light lunch outside of the gardens as it can be a bit pricey to eat in the garden orangey or the like. It is a fairly quaint place with a very cosy atmosphere. There is a bakery attached to the restaurant & you can purchase slices of cake to takeaway, which is cheaper then eating in. There were a lot of elderly people in the tearoom & I suspect they come for a hot meal - the roast dinners seemed a bit on the small side.Han had a smoked salmon open sandwich on rocket & I enjoyed a cheese & leek quiche with a side salad. The food was lovely & fresh and very reasonably priced. The bread that accompanys the meal is wholewheat heaven in a bite.We also got an eclair & their famous maid of honour cake to takeaway & we ate these in the gardens - very yummy.The location is about 500m walk to the right of the Victoria Gate at Kew Gardens

If you are looking for a snack or afternoon tea after a visit to Kew Gardens, pop across the road to The Original Maids of Honour. This quaint tea room is the perfect place to relax and soak up the traditional atmosphere.The Original Maids of Honour has been operating in the area for nearly 300 years. It is home to the delicious Maid of Honour cake - which is kind of like a light custard tart, but the recipe is a family secret that has been passed down through the generations.The café is open for morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea. At lunch time you can choose from a selection of home made pies and sausage rolls, quiches, sandwiches or the Roast of the Day.Stop by in the afternoon for the Maids of Honour set tea, which includes tea (or coffee), 2 scones with jam and clotted cream and a Maid of Honour cake. Delicious!! There are also a selection of freshly made cakes and pastries that you can eat in or take away.
