John Binns-Hall of Paint Your Home came to decorate three rooms in total.I asked him to strip off old paper, hang lining paper, and paint walls, ceilings, woodwork and radiators. He began work on the stairs and landing, and I paid him £575 upon completion of that room. Three days after the room was painted, the woodwork was already badly chipped, flaking and peeling.John blamed the paint, and said he would re-paint the areas affected. He scraped off loose paint in specific areas, and re-painted using a different paint to that he had used elsewhere.I must point out that he used paint he had recommended and purchased himself.Due to the fact that he had used a metal tool to scrape away some areas and not others, the finish was atrocious. The paint was lumpy, bumpy and uneven, despite the fact it had been smooth prior to John's work. The following day it was evident that more paint was flaking and peeling in areas he had not re-done.I told him I was not happy, and asked him to strip off all the paint he had said was at fault, and re-paint everything using a different paint. He had also begun work on the living room.He had hung the lining paper vertically, and not horizontally, as he had said he would when he had quoted for the work. When I asked him why he had done this,he said that if he had hung it horizontally, the seams would have been visible.I also asked him if it would be a problem if we decided to hang ordinary wallpaper over it in the future. He said a good decorator would be able to avoid the seams coinciding.I am not sure if this information is correct,as all the other decorators that quoted originally, said that lining paper should be hung horizontally.John had originally said he would hang it horizontally when he had quoted too.I asked him to leave before work was completed,as I did not want any more of my home ruining.I have been left with terrible paintwork, bubbled paper on the landing, and a living room that has possibly been lined incorrectly. The only positive thing I can say about this man is that he was a good time-keeper.
