Reap the benefit of our business experience

At Preen we're a Community Interest Company, which means we can't afford to rest on our laurels. We don't receive public funding for our core operations so we have to be efficient in order to make a profit that we can then use to help local people in need.
That commercial edge means we've learned to do more with fewer resources; success is not a question of just ticking boxes and looking good, it's a case of being as efficient as possible so you can do what you're best at – supporting your clients and the local community.
Now we're offering the benefit of our considerable experience to local organisations for a very reasonable cost. Whether you're a social enterprise, CIC , voluntary group, registered charity, or thinking about setting up a business that benefits the local community, contact us now. We know that every penny has to be accounted for and we will offer the best help we can at a price you can afford.

From starter packs to room furniture

At Preen we work with statutory and voluntary agencies across Bedfordshire and surrounding areas to target those most in need. We have a range of items to suit most budgets and can provide starter packs including cutlery, kitchen utensils, bedding, or other specific items that your client needs.

If your client is paying for items themselves, please direct them to Preen. If they are on a low income or means tested benefits they can join as a Supported Member (at no charge) which means they receive 15% discount on essential reused items costing £19 or more.

If you are buying items for a client please contact us to discuss their circumstances and how we can best help your client.

Our staff are fully trained in treating vulnerable people with dignity and understanding; and our prices are flexible for people in real need, so we will be able to find something that does the job for your client. Please remember, we do need proof of low income (whether it's earnings or benefits) in order for your client to join as a Supported Member.

Helping families feed themselves

Every family with children knows that school holidays can be a testing time on finances so the Bedfordshire Food Aid Network is helping by giving Holiday Packs to dozens of local families with children who receive free school meals. Packs contain basic and filling foods such as cereals, pasta and soups, along with a few treats like chocolate biscuits and sweets.

Typical is this comment from a family who received a pack – “Thank you. It's so hard to keep the kids fed and entertained over the school holiday and what we got meant we were able to do things that don't cost much but we just couldn't have done before. The school holidays were much more fun thanks to getting that bit of help."

Please contact us if your school is in Central Bedfordshire and would like to take part in this initiative (at no cost to school or families), you or a family you know needs a Holiday Pack.

Food (non-perishables and not out-of-date please!) and toiletries can be dropped off at our Reuse Centre during opening hours.

Recognitions for our work

Preen is Trading Standards Approved, the only organisation of our type with this approval we believe, and we are a member of the Furniture Reuse Network. We are also proud to hold the Positive about Disabled People Accreditation from Jobcentre Plus.
Preen CIC was listed at number 33 on the RBS Social Enterprise 100 top performers list for 2011. We also won the Green Business Award from Networking@Dunstable in both 2012 and 2013 and were named Enterprising Organisation of the Year in the 2013 Bedfordshire Business Awards.
