The Royal Military School of Music (RMSM) occupies Kneller Hall - recognized as the home of Army music since its foundation in 1857 - near Twickenham, just 9 miles from central London.
The Phase 2 musicians course (Rendle VC Troop) provides Phase 2 training for all soldiers joining the Corps of Army Music and is undertaken after completion of Phase 1 military training.
The length of this training varies according to the standard of musicianship on entry, running from 11 to 44 working weeks. It is designed to allow musicians to fulfill their potential early with a view to passing mandatory tests for assignment to a band as soon as possible.
Career development courses for trained musicians within the bands to assist in progressing their careers. This included Command Leadership and Management Courses (CLM) and the new Musicial Direction (MD) courses.
Tuition is delivered by some of Britain's leading instrumental and academic professors, many of whom play in leading symphony orchestras or teach in the London music colleges. The RMSM provides, therefore, strong contemporary links with the world of civilian professional music.
Military training and supervision is provided by the best instructors and staff from within the Corps of Army Music and the wider Army.
Finale concert of the 2013 season is this coming Wednesday 24 July 2013.
Featuring the Band of the Welsh Guards, the Band of the Army Air Corps and the Lowland Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
The Corps of Army Music is interested in your performance and potential rather than just music qualifications.
Not all musicians have recognised musical qualifications, so with or without them you may gain entry in to the Corps by audition alone. If you can demonstrate you have the potential we are looking for, we can help develop it to the full.
For those with higher levels of qualifications you may be entitled to 1 of 3 possible 'Golden Hello' payments after completion of training.
We will audition you where you will be expected to perform 2 contrasting pieces on your primary instrument/voice and if applicable, on your secondary instrument.
During the audition process your sight reading skills will be tested and your aural perception assessed.
You will also be required to sit a general musicianship paper.
