We are great believers in supporting our local retailers. So, as part of our plan to renovate our kitchen and fit new electrical appliances, I went to Stewart & Young with the aim of spending several thousand pounds on new equipment. On arrival I was greeted by an unbelievably rude sales man. I am not sure if he was the manager or not but he certainly behaved as if he owned the place. To cut a long story short he flatly refused to provide me with any prices for the goods I was looking to buy – he stated that he wanted one of his engineers to inspect the kitchen first (which by the way could take up to two weeks to book in!) - I was simply after comfort that there prices were sensible and then we could deal with the technical side after. No, that simply wouldn't happen – to cut a long story short I have never met anyone quite so unhelpful. Instead I went to a local competitor and gave them my business. To anyone looking for kitchen equipment and customer service, I would give this company a wide berth – if this is what they are like when you want to give them money what would they be like if something ever went wrong?

They quoted £450 and the REAL SMEG engineer did it for less that £200 AS WELL AS fixing additional minor problems. One can't help but think that they either made a hugely expensive mistake or were trying it on. Don't trust these guys from my experience.

We had a problem but found the answer. Take concerns to the manager. He's very willing to help. Sadly, one can't remove one's own posts on this site.

Two faulty fridge-freezers and I have to prove it! Unpleasant tone. If you want food poisoning due to faulty fridge, you know where to go!

Happy to recommend Stewart & Young after having heating element replaced by one of their engineers on our SMEG range cooker (A1 model). Very helpful and skilled engineer.

I have just had my new dishwasher delivered and installed. In the past I have bought from John Lewis but became unhappy with their delivery and service on white goods. Stewart and Young were able to give good advice on brands and models and a competitive price that included installation and disposal of the old machine. The installation was quick and efficient. I also chose them as I know they will be able to service the machine if needed.
