This is an activity that you can make as strenuous or sedate as you choose and is huge fun. The hire company were very friendly and helpful and the emphasis in the safety briefing was on personal safety, kayaks and paddles can be replaced. The transport took us to our launch area and launched us and were waiting for us at the end of our paddle. All the staff were cheerful and willing to help and make sure we were happy. I'm definitely going to hire from them again and tell all my friends too.

Irresponsible
They knew I was a complete beginer in my mid 60's with no experience of canoeing. They said that's fine and that I would get some instruction before going on the river. This was irresponsibly misleading. It was far more strenuous than they led me to believe and I am surprise I made it, though they did have to lift me out of the canoe at the finish. You cannot possibly remember all they tell you about routes through rough water, and they should have given us a map for this. I was so angry that I felt like abandoning their canoe, but they had my car keys as deposit. After the introduction talk I thought: "Well, that was more for their benefit - returning the equipment in good order - than mine. I think they are irresponsible and an experienced canoeist living in the area agreed when I told him. He said that the stretch of river we were given really is not suitable for complete beginers.
