About

About Us

A stunning Grade ll* Listed medieval timber framed house in the middle of Edenbridge, originally built in 1468 for Sir Wyllyam Taylour, then Sheriff of London (later Lord Mayor of London). It is said the building had the proportions and ceiling heights (12 ft) of a 'fine London house'. The coat of arms of the Taylour family can still be found carved into two of the door spandrels. The building has a Jacobean staircase and wall paintings of a similar age. It also has several magnificent inglenook fireplaces (with some witch marks) and is heavily timbered throughout. The property was refurbished to a very high standard during 2015 and has some wonderful period furnishings that complement the modern amenities.

Property Description

The house has a wonderful kitchen/dining room in which there is room for 10 people to sit around a large table. It is well equipped with all the items needed for a large group to enjoy themselves.

There is a large lounge with a magnificent inglenook fireplace (now housing a large 50" TV) with seating for at least ten people and also another smaller lounge for four people. Both rooms have flat screen Televisions with Satellite reception and DVD players.

The smaller lounge has a sofa bed, which could be used as an additional or alternative sleeping space for 2 people.

All these rooms are heavily timbered and have twelve foot high ceilings which make them feel very spacious.

Also on the ground floor is a utility room fitted with a Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Tumble Dryer and an additional sink together with the downstairs shower and w/c.

On the Jacobean staircase is a door to a little low hide-away with two chairs - ideal for those who want a little space to read perhaps.

On the first floor is a very large master bedroom with a four poster bed, another good size double bedroom with an amazing stone fireplace, a smaller room with two single beds and a landing with more sitting space. All these bedrooms have Jacobean wall paintings that were rediscovered in recent years.

Also on the first floor is a luxurious bathroom with a double ended free standing bath and a huge walk-in shower, all recently installed.

The second floor comprises of two lovely bedrooms, both with vaulted ceilings, with two single beds in each room.

The property has full mains gas fired central heating with an adjustable wall thermostat and unlimited hot water from a combination boiler.

Free WiFi is available throughout much of the house

Smoking is strictly not permitted on the premises

Disabled access may be possible as there is a ground floor sofa bed and just two steps down to a shower and w/c.

There is secure gated parking for two vehicles on site and free parking nearby. Also a small outside seating area with table and chairs.

Testimonials

A very interesting old house with so much history. Perfect for a special celebration birthday. Comfortable and spacious and everywhere clean. We all enjoyed our stay, would not hesitate to visit again. Thank you so much Kerstin. Kind Regards, Edward

Edward and family together with our relations and best friends, 11 Oct 2016

Edenbridge has been the ideal spot to spend our 20th annual family weekend and from which to explore the delights of Kent and East-Sussex. After a scenic tour of the area, some culture seeking and a little retail therapy, we found ourselves indulging in the local life of Edenbridge with its diverse range of fusion foods and quirky boutiques. And Taylour House has of course been the perfect place for us to rest our weary heads. Warm and welcoming and steeped in history - it has been like stepping back in time to days gone by, and the footsteps of the Lord Mayor of London. Many thanks to Kerstin and Peter for all the special little touches - and for such a memorable weekend.
