Having a website without visitors is like being the only one in the boardroom for the meeting!

Are you taking the time to look at your stats? All hosting accounts as a rule come with the addition of Stats. Stats will show you how many visitors your site is getting per day and per month, how many of those visitors are a "Unique Visitor" ie: first time visitor to your site, how many are a returning customer as well as their geographical location and the search terms they used to find your site.

If you are not analysing these statistics at least every month your site is surely going to suffer because this is the single most important way of seeing if your visitors are finding what they want on your site.

When you look at your budget for an advert in your local paper, you can expect to pay up to £500 for maybe a half page in colour. That advert will be viewed for 1 day only, not only will it be only viewable for one day its not even specific to your potential clients needs its just like an annoying popup on the web, they are reading about local info and your advert could be trying to sell them a camera. If they don't want a camera they wont even register in their minds your advert, if they do want a camera it may register, they may read your advert and they may even consider it but unless your advert is running consecutively over the next few nights also its very unlikely they will remember who you where to purchase your product.

But the internet is so different, when someone finds your website through google or yahoo etc they have found your website based on your products or services, so they are looking for what you are offering and chances are they are ready to buy or if not they will more than likely save your site into their favourites to come back and check it out later.
