Recently tried the hurt arms at ambergate, i pass it daily and thought i would give it a try, i took my folks there for sunday lunch. the pub decor is amazing and the staff are friendly but its run like fawlty towers, we placed our orders it took 30 mins for 2 soups and a pate to arrive, for mains i had a burger my father had a steak and my mother had a chicken dish with rice.... my dads steak was ment to be med rare it was well done a the worst piece of meat you seen in you life my burger was dry and burnt the bugger bun was so hard could not eat it and as for chips on both meals they were an attempt of home made , partly cooked and cold............. the did a check back at the table and if it had not been for at the time my mothers been fantastic we would of demanded our money back...... sunday night my father called the doctor out to my mother, she had a cute food poisoning which kind of put the icing on the cake, the food safety office from the council has been in contact via the doctor, and the matter is on going..... like i said nice pub awful food...

Avoid Ploughman's lunch at all costs

Not Ploughman's lunch as such, more a pile of food. No pickled onion, chutney or relish or even cheddar cheese (instead processed orange stuff (I also declined the offer of goat's cheese), Nachos and big raw onion. Absolute rubbish and wish I had sent it back instead of paying £6.50!

Convenient and Spacious

Service

A large pub/ hotel situated on the main A6 route between Belper and Matlock. The pub is big with a beer garden at the back. The food is your average pub food and nothing special from my experience. The location is very convenient and you can pop in here during the day. It is a good location for walking as it is situated near to Ambergate Woods so this is a popular meeting place for walkers and runners. There is also a large field next to the pub that is often used for camping and caravanning. Definately a nice summer pub as is in lovely rural setting.
