The Old Volunteer is a village pub with an Italian twist in the heart of Caythorpe. Nick and Annie Santarpia moved to the UK where Nick managed a top London hotel before the irresistible opportunity to take over the The Old Volunteer presented itself. A warm welcome awaits you as you enter in to the Volunteer's chicly appointed restaurant and its comfortable and well-stocked bar whilst the restaurant food is the product of Nick's talent as a formally and professionally trained chef. He studied under Professor Zotti at the college of Pellegrino Artusi, a foundation figure of Italian cuisine, in Riolo Terme near Imola. Such outstanding training, qualifications and background complemented by Nick's experience provide the inspiration for the wonderful dishes presented to those discerning diners fortunate enough to visit the Volunteer to sample the delights which taste every bit as sumptuous as they appear. We'd also like to introduce our new chef, Roger Staniland, to complement Nick's classic Italian style of cooking with a more traditional English range of dishes. Roger is a time-served, seasoned chef who has given over 30 years service to the licensed & restaurant trade at such venues as "The Old English" which the more mature diner is sure to remember. Roger prides himself on his repertoire of steak dishes whilst his signature dish - stuffed chicken with Stilton and wild mushrooms - is simply to dine for!
