My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Maison Renouf for a week while I worked at the Southend Airport. Our stay was fantastic. My work takes me all over the world and I have rarely found such helpful and warm staff as those employed by Renouf. We ate in the brasserie every night and although the menu was a little limited the food quality and presentation was incredible. My wife was left to her own resources during the day and again the reception staff helped her with advice and planning. We both thoroughly recommend Maison Renouf.

My wife and I booked in to spend one night together at this establishment. We chose Maison Renouf because from the website it looked by all purposes clean, modern and fairly upmarket compared to many others. What I would say though is that although the facilities were good, the staff, or lack of them was beyond poor. The main gripe concerned not only us, but the other 10 guests who were all in the reception area. We were expecting as it claims on all printed materials that breakfast would be ready for us. There was no breakfast, no staff, nothing. At 9:30 when the young receptionist came down, looking very hungover, he explained that he passed out due to food poisoning the previous night and had only just awoke. When asked about other staff, we found that not only was he completely alone, but he was also expected to cook and serve breakfast! He not only cooked and ran the hotel, but when questioned about safety issues such as if there had been a fire, he explained that he would have evacuated us all out! Yeah, right. One other moan while Im on my high horse was that the other guests included an old lady with diabetis. There were no tea making facilities on the ground floor so other guests had to get her tea and biscuits. This is an unacecptable way to run a hotel, and although the receptionist made mistakes by not contacting any other staff who work there to take over from him, the management need to take a lot of blame. Why run an establishment with so few people??? Never would I stay at this establishment again nor recommend this to any other individual.
