About

The stroom restaurant and function rooms....

The stroom restaurant and function rooms is a modern, friendly restaurant situated in the heart of Pudsey, West Yorkshire.

We are housed in Pudsey's eighteenth century Conservative Club Building and are proud to serve the best in modern European cuisine. Our top chefs have developed their own style of cooking based on classic European dishes with imaginative twists and chic presentation.
The stroom restaurant and functions rooms take its name from its meaning as a baboon stroom, a mammals feeding and watering hole. The stroom wows customers with its sophisticated menu and its warm, contemporary atmosphere. It is the place to relax and have fun. The stroom has a reputation second to none. Not only do we provide distinctive food, wines and beers, the service is impressive too.

All our rooms are designed to be bright and classy eateries decorated with a palette of creams, yellows, blues and oranges. We have retained some of the eighteenth century features of the Conservative Club building including a marble mosaic floor.

The restaurant has been in the Gibson family since 1980. The queens room and cellar bar were additional function rooms to the main site at Uppermoor. After modernization in 2003 and 2005, the restaurant is looking forward.

Our Menu's....

Our aim is to bring you the best fresh food, expertly cooked and presented,
full of robust flavours and textures. Everything on the Menu is made on the
premises including Bread, Ice Creams and sauces. In our a la carte restaurant, you can choose from an extensive a la carte menu or our
early bird menu, which both feature traditional English and French food, prepared by our
top European chefs.

Our popular Sunday lunches are an all time favourite and are served in our newly renovated queen's room restaurant- a perfect setting for a family meal.

Wine and Drink....

Whether you want a rich red to accompany a main meal or a cosy after-diner cognac, the stroom's extensive and eclectic drink menu offers a full range of the finest wines, beers and spirits to make sure you can indulge in whatever tipple you're looking for.

From stylish champagnes to subtle reds and sharp dry whites, we have a comprehensive list of wines from Europe, the Americas and the new world. Also available is a premium wine list for the true wine connoisseur.

Roberto will be happy to give you friendly and knowledgeable advice on the menu available.

We have a wide range of cognacs, whiskeys, ports, liqueurs and spirits. For the more discerning drinker we stock Aged Chateau Beaulon cognac, single variety grappa, calvados du pays d'auge and an armagnac of 20 years, plus a host of other premium offerings.

Our draught beverages include Stella Artois, Guinness, Tetley's smooth and Carlsberg whilst beers, including Becks, Budweiser, San Miguel, Nastro Azzuro Peroni and Kaliber are available in bottles. We also stock a host of spirit and fruit mixes such as Bacardi Breezer & Archers Aqua.

All this, alongside a range of nibbles at the bar, add that little extra to a special evening,

Fine A La Carte dinning and also extensive facilities for function dining. An ideal venue for weddings, Civil ceremonies, birthdays, christenings etc. We also cater for Business/corpoarte seminars/meetings etc.

Disappointed

My wife and I and our 9 year old daughter ate at The Stroom last night (Tuesday 26/10/2010) and took advantage of the early bird deal. We were quickly shown to a table and received attentive service from the two staff. Unfortunately there was a large party of around a dozen also eating that night so after the good start the service we received pretty much disappeared. The starters were good but we waited ages for our mains - we were later told that my daughter's main had to be redone and this caused the delay. I guess my belly pork sat a little too long under the heat lamp as it was quite dry (though the crackling wasn't all crispy!), and my daughter's chicken was also a little overdone. My wife's sea bass was good although there wasn't much of it. We intended to order desert but after waiting 20 minutes for our order to be taken we left. I complained about the service but was told that they "were unexpectedly extremely busy, although that doesn't help you!" - quite right, it didn't. I can't imagine that the table with a dozen people on didn't pre-book so it would have seemed sensible to me to have more than two staff on for the night. Overall, the food was ok but still cost £55 (inc wine) for the 3 of us and the service was v.poor. Thinking back, this has often been the case at The Stroom. Shall look elsewhere next time we go out.

Great!!

This restaurant must be in our top five in Leeds at the moment. Been going for a few years now and the food and service has been consistently good. Nice surroundings and good atmosphere and family friendly. Especially love the good quality crisps and nuts served with the drinks. The menu changes quite frequently and the veggie options are always good. Some good wines to be found here too at reasonable prices. One thing I especially appreciate is that you are never hurried and you don't feel that they want the table back as soon as you put your fork down. Often a problem these days!!Parking is no problem tho there are often some dubious looking youths hanging around the Cenetaph opposite.
