What is good Web Design?

At Tigerchick we have put a great deal of thought into what makes a really good web site. We think that it boils down to four very simple things:

1. It must look great.

2. It must be easy to use.

3. It must be easy to find on the web.

4. It must generate new business and customers.

Actually achieving all these things is a little more complicated - that's where we come in!

Why do I need a good web site?

The world has changed a huge amount recently. We all still need the same services - plumbers, lawyers, architects, taxis etc - the difference is in how we find those services and businesses.

Not long ago most of would have been reaching for the Yellow Pages - now most of stretch out our fingers and type into our favourite search engine - on the web!

The sad fact is that most web sites are just no good. It's often such a shame because businesses owners will have spent huge amounts of time, effort and money on their businesses only to be let down by their web site. A web site should work like a company's very best representative - it's got to look and act the part because in this modern techno-age it will form many people's first impression of a company.

Ok - I want a great website to make a good impression with potential new customers. How do I get people to see it though?

Luckily for us, most people don't understand the power of the web or how it works :) We do! This means that we can enable people to find your new website. We have two geek terms for this: "online marketing" and Search Engine Optimisation". In practice they're a bit boring and involve lots of technical wizardry - but the results are what counts!

1. People find your site.
2. People think - "wow, what a good site".
People give you business.

Why do I need great photography?

We always say that a great website is only a great website if it has great content. What on earth does that mean!?

It means that people like looking at good-looking stuff. People hate looking at boring looking stuff. It's a fact - it doesn't matter if you are an artist, an accountant or chimpanzee - if it's dull you'll get bored and go else where and you certainly won't remember what you've seen. Is that how you want your business to be seen? No. I'm sure you don't.

So how do we make it interesting?

Simple - nice images.

Good photography is just so important - especially on the web. People using the web have tiny attention spans - not because they're a bit dim but because there is just so much stuff on the web - if you don't get their full attention with a few seconds, they'll be gone. Put a really striking image as the first thing they see and you've got their attention. Now they might be willing to dig a little deeper and find out what your business is all about.
