If your cats need more than just bed and board but also love, care and cuddles, this is the right cattery for you. It's obvious right away that this is more than just a business for the owner and her team - it's a passion. The "No Thrills" review on this page in no way reflects the experience I have had when boarding my pedigree cats there over several years. I am puzzled as to why the complainant did not try to discuss her issues with the owner and reach a resolution before rushing off to leave unpleasant comments on review boards, but everyone is different I suppose. Personally I have never been anything other that delighted with the service I have received. There is really only one problem with Top Cat N Tails - it is so popular that you have to book well in advance. But that just proves that there are a lot of satsified customers out there.

I cannot recommed this cattery highly enough. My two cats have been regular visitors for quite some time now and they are always reluctant to leave when collected! The cottages are brilliant and provide a spacious and stimulating experience for cats. It's obvious that the owner and staff are passionate about the cats in their care. I have no worries about leaving them there as I know they will be well looked after and their welfare is always going to be a priority for the cattery. Sometimes I think that the cats are having a better holiday than I am!

I couldn't disagree more with the "all the frills with no frills" review. I have been a customer at top cat n tails for 3 years. When originally looking for a cattery, one of my Siamese had a tumour and needed special attention, medicating several times a day. I looked around roughly 20 so called luxury cat hotels and was just about to cancel my holidays before I found Jane at Top cats. I fell in love with the place from the moment I walked in. It didn't smell like the other places I had seen and I felt the staff, in particular Jane and Jan were extremely friendly and I knew my babies would be well looked after. The cottages are beatiful and have everything a cat could want. Radios are on around the site for the cats to listen to. I have now got a diabetic that needs injectin every 12 hours and eat special food at certain times. The staff are more than happy to do it this, unlike many catteries I looked round. I would not take my cats anywhere else but Top cat n tails and I know my cats wouldn't want to go anywhere else. They are always so happy and content when I pick them up and I have the fussiest cats in the world. I would recommend this cattery to anyone who loves their cats. From Amy, James, Tao and Lily

All the frills with no thrills!

Proclaiming to be the best cattery in the country as stated on their website. From our experience we found the “Top Cat ‘n' Tails Cattery" Derbyshire to be extremely disappointing, totally failing to meet our satisfactory expectations and we would not at all recommend them with any stars or tweets. Firstly the cattery is well over priced for the service you get. The discount for more than one cat to share a pen is very minimal, hardly worth calling a discount. The day of your collection you are charged a full day rate and not part day rate like many other catteries offer. This cattery boasts a big display board showing all the cat treats they offer with no evidence that the cats actually receive those treats. We think this is supposed to impress the owner rather than the cat itself! This cattery has a mandatory term and conditions form for the customer to sign and agree to prior to committing and in our opinion some of the terms stated are ridiculously over the top or questionable. If you book your cat(s) in and something unfortunately happens causing you the need to cancel, be warned they charge between 30%-50%-100 % for cancellations between 1-4 weeks. They request of you before arriving with your cat to write up an extensive character blog regarding your cat's temperament, likes and dislikes with full feeding instructions. Our experience upon collection of our cats was to find their bowls full of dry food at 3.00pm in the afternoon when we had instructed them beforehand that our cats are indoor cats and due to weight increase must only have a handful of biscuits in the morning and not to fill up bowls of food and leave them sitting all day! When we came to collect our cats we also discovered as well as full bowls that the food in the bowls was not the dry food we had requested for our cats diet as we know very well the appearance and shape of our cats regular cat biscuits. So much for this cattery listening to the owner or reading their requested blog! This cattery appears quick to boost themselves ahead of “other catteries" and one has to wonder why. The Cattery is situated at the back of a house with restricted parking. Cats are supposed to have radio and or TV supplied, we saw no such thing upon collection, no music/radio playing. Our cats were admitted to the cattery in tip top shape on a continuous monthly flea and worm program, fully vet checked and vaccinated with clear bills of health and they came back to our home itching, scratching and with diarrhoea! With healthy cats such as ours, the diarrhoea can often be associated with a change of diet and one last point is that they are perfectly fine now once they came home and were fed their regular diet, so healthy stools again! Regarding the so called service and staff, in our opinion we found them to be extremely edgy, unfriendly in their manner with a hint of pretentiousness, over protective and self defensive with their views/opinions towards their cattery. The so called *photo service* (picture of your cat sent to your mobile phone) that they boast is part of their service, did not actually arrive until the day we were returning home after a 10 day vacation! As responsible cat owners we know our cats better than any cattery could ever claim to know them yet one of the employees proceeded to tell us what our cats liked and did not like and made assumptions on their characters which was totally incorrect and then proceeded to inform us that she had actually been away on holiday herself and did not know whether our cats were fed the treats we requested to be selected. Despite all their self perpetuated ratings, ranting and ravings when viewing their website, experience is the greatest teacher of all and actions speak much louder than words. Beyond the painted high frills and fluffy mirage, we were extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with their service! We have certainly experienced better quality catteries at a fraction of the price. As the famous saying goes, you get what you pay for, but with this cattery we found that you do not get what you pay for and neither does your cat!
