I booked an intensive course with Town and Country with a practical test to be taken at the end of the course. Following a week of contentious comments from my instructor and visits his home, where he left me alone in the car for 5 mins each time, I became aware that this was not going to be the week I passed my test. By Friday, my test being on Saturday at 8.40am, I hadn't practised a parallel park, an emergency stop or had I been instructed on the vehicle maintenance check (show me, tell me) that I would do at the start of the test. I was to do a four hour lesson on Wednesday, but after a ten minute tea break an hour and a half in to the lesson, I found out that this break was coming out of my tuition time. After 3 hours my legs started to ache badly and my instructor took me back to my hotel, I lost the remaining hour of my lesson! On Saturday morning I took my own car with a qualified driver friend beside me, to the test centre and explained to my examiner that I would not take the test as I had not being sufficiently prepared for it by my instructor. I told him I understood that there was only a 9% chance of my passing first time but that I felt I had even less chance than that. The examiner told me that DSA results show that first time passes are at 35% in their figures. Had I been aware of this fact alone I would not have booked with Town and Country, whose leaflet states that 9% is their first time pass rate.
