About

Welcome

UNISON is one of the UK's largest trade unions, serving more than 1.3 million members. We represent full-time and part-time staff who provide public services, although they may be employed in both the public and private sectors.

UNISON represents and acts for members working in a range of public services and utilities, whether they're employed by private companies, public authorities or in the community and voluntary sector.

We represent members, negotiate and bargain on their behalf, campaign for better working conditions and pay and for public services. And more besides.Representing our members is a key part of UNISON's work. Our reps form the vital links between members and the union as a whole and are volunteers, trained by UNISON to support members at work.

Negotiation and bargaining is the process of talking to employers and making agreements with employers when workers are unhappy with pay or working conditions

Campaigning is a vital part of our work. It is one method we use to raise awareness of issues, fight for employment rights and gather support for local, national and international issues.

One of UNISON's main aims is to help workers fight for fairness and equality in the workplace and beyond. Challenging discrimination and winning equality is at the heart of everything UNISON does

UNISON works with individual unions and global union federations around the world to defend public services, fight against austerity and defend human and trade union rights wherever they are under attack.

UNISON works in partnership with many other trade unions and professional organisations. With some, we have signed agreements that give our members the benefits of belonging to those organisations, at no additional cost.

UNISON offers learning and training covering a wide variety of subjects. Many of the courses are subsidised or free and you may be entitled to time off work to attend them.

Who are our members and how is your voice heard? Find out more about UNISON members, our branches, regions, member or self-organised groups, activists, structure and democracy.
