To counteract the previous review (quite old now) .... we dined at the Wollaston Inn about 6 weeks ago and had a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday lunch. Quite a touch of sophistication for outback Northamptonshire. The meal started with delicious homemade breads with dipping oil and vinegar, and the roast dinner, whilst culinarily unadventurous was cooked to perfection with the vegetables being suitably al dente. The staff were polite and helpful and I am looking forward to my next visit on Mothers Day.

Outstanding Restaurant and Country Pub

Service

Quality

Value

Nearly four years after acquiring the legendary Nags Head Pub and after a complete re-furbishment in 03-04, the Wollaston Inn has strongly established itself with a reputation for its high quality dining. Winning a national award-UPC's Best Pub Restaurant in 04/05 and 05/06 they have also gained a place in Alastair Sawday's well respected Special Places guide 2006 and 2007.The secluded courtyard patio is open throughout the summer months and provides a great area to drink and dine.My favourite place though is to sit in one of the back rooms - the food is always better than excellent and the service friendly, attentive and very very good. I have been known to eat here days in a row it is SO good!!

Poor food and arrogant ownership - May 2007

Service

Quality

Overpriced, rude and arrogant proprietor. We dined here two days ago and started with a "pre-starter" of a seafood platter (circa £14). This really is a poor excuse for what was a really poor selection of badly seasoned and prepared seafood (you really could pop into Waitrose, spend a fiver and get better). Thos was followed by "cullen skink" whick was weak watery and again very poor. We had the rump of lamb to follow, under seasoned with a poor overcooked selection of vegtables. After each course we were asked what we thought by the friendly waitress, who totally ignored our negative comments. We finished with coffee and "home made" biscotti (maybe home made but very poor and stale. Finally we complained and asked to talk to the chef about this (at 9.30pm) and we were told he'd gone home. Eventually, what we were informed was the proprietor arrived, who was rude and arrogant. We paid the large billand left, only to be verbally abused by a member of staff on the way out. TO BE AVOIDED!
