The Wedding Venue and how to source it!

Having spoken to loads of Brides to be. I've come to the conclusion that they tend to fall into three main catergories 1) those that want to plan their own wedding but tend to get stressed in the last couple of weeks leading up to the big day. 2) Those that have everything planned down to the last detail the day after the husband to be proposes. Or 3) The brides to be that do not have a clue where to start and most importantly how to start. However, all of them have something in common - they want to talk and tell you everything about it - whether it be how they have planned everything down to the military precisioned detail of what temperture their wedding breakfast will be served at, to ' I have never had eczema before but it seems to have flared up and the nighmares are getting worst' - yes really! We need to educate our British brides - ( In other countries as soon as the ring is on your finger a wedding planner is the first supplier on speed dial) the lead up to your big day should be an enjoyable time. Yes a certain amount of stress is acceptable, having a nervous breakdown is not. Expecting your day to run perfectly is attainable - after all you are paying for it. So by taking a leaf out of the Bridezillas book I have compiled a list of what you should expect from your most expensive supplier - the wedding venue. Questions you should ask, and questions you may need to ask. In future blogs I will give hints and tips on other suppliers - so keep reading! Does the venue have a civil licence?Does you supply a wedding co-ordinator? Does it have on-site catering?/Can I bring in my own caterers? Can we bring our own alcohol?/Do you charge corkage? - If so how much? What is the package price per head?/ Can we mix and match menus? Are tables, chairs, linens and silverware included? Do you have a recommended Florist?Do you have an in house DJ? Do you allow bands? Is our wedding the only event on that day? Is there overnight accommodation?/ Do you have recommended venues for overnight accomadation nearby? Are room discounts available for guests?/ Group bookings? Is there adequate parking for guests? Can we put up a marquee?/ What is the cost?Do we get use of the venue gardens?/ outside areas? Are children welcome? Are outside spaces child friendly? Is the venue insured in case of accident? What time is the venue licenced to?Can we let off fireworks?/ Cheines Lanterns? What is your cancellation policy?Happy venue huntingWendie x

Key pieces to revamp your wardrobe.

Ladies recently I read an article regarding how many key pieces your wardrobe should contain. Goksays 24. Donna Karan says 7! Personally I am sticking with good old Brix Smith who was outraged that you should streamline. After all a jacket that you can dress up or down is all very good, but don't we all want more than one? I'm not talking about keeping 26 pairs of jeans in your wardrobe, but I do believe varietyis the spice of life.Whenever I weed a client's wardrobe they tend to fall into two categories - either too many clothes or not enough. Not many seem to have it just right. So for the record if your stuck on what key pieces to have in your wardrobe here are my ideas on what we should try and aspire to: 4 t shirts, one black one white and two others that tone in with other outfits. 2 pairs of jeans, one dark and smart to dress up and one slightly lighter. Shape depends on you and what suits. It's all verywell purchasing skinny jeans, but quite frankly if they don't suit - then don't purchase. 3 cardigans, again one could be black and preferably this should double up as a jacket for slightly chilly days. Again the other 2 should tone in with whatever else is in your wardrobe. 4 dresses - I am a big fan of the dress, chose one thatflatters and fits, throw on some shoes and accessories, team with a great handbag and you're good to go. Cardigans can be thrown over the top, vest tops (again 4) can be worn underneath them. There are so many great ideas on how to wear a dress. In my mind these should be a stable part of your wardrobe. 3 skirts, again worn with a cardigan buttoned up with a belt slung around your waist or left open with a t shirt or a vest top underneath. 2 Jackets beautifully cut to wear with numerous outfits, dressed down or up. 2 pairs of well cut trousers again these should tone in with the jackets (not match please) and the cardigans, not forgetting those wonderful little vest tops and t shirts. Shoes - well as I have so many I couldn't possibly talk about streamlining these, but if pushed I would say 2 of each, fabulous flats and sexy heels are a must and completeevery outfit. Throw in a whole bunch of accessories including belts and necklaces, some of which could double as belts and look fantastic toned or clashed with any outfit. That my fellow readers is what makes a great wardrobe, and that makes 28 key pieces and amounts to more than 75 different outfits.

My published article on Wardrobe weeding

Check out the latest article I had published in the Luton today mag. I am really proud of it. Make your Wardrobe work for you I recently interviewed Wendie Webb who is the image consultant for an up and coming company called Woocandoo Concepts. Wendie explained how the company have carefully put together packages based around image consultancy, events and wedding coordination. Flicking through their latest spring brochure I spotted a package called the styling experience. This package is based on wardrobe weeding. Wendie enlightened me further as to how this works. She explained that clients contact her usually because they feel their wardrobe needs new life breathed into it or they are stuck when it comes to pulling outfits together. They want someone to create a wardrobeful of clothes that works more effectively for them. Most of all they want to feel great in what they wear. Wendie further explained that we only wear 20% of what our wardrobe contains. Most of these clothes normally fall into our "safe" category. "Items that we wear all the time because we don't know how to change. Then when it's worn out we go out and buy the same thing again because it's all we know" this is known in the business as a style rut! Wendie will arrange a time to go along to the client's house armed with a clothes rail to hang everything on, her colour swatches and a scrummy picnic lunch. She will spend the day pulling out items and putting outfits together, all the while asking loads of questions to ensure she has taken into consideration the clients' lifestyle as well as their likes and dislikes. "It's not about taking the client out of their comfort zone - its allowing them to discover other possibilities, allowing them to explore ideas to become more creative and feel fantastic in everything they wear from then on". The client will be assessed and will learn what their shape is and what items and colours will work best for them. The clothes will be placed into four main categories, keep, sell, charity and throw. Some outfits that are clearly the wrong shape or colour can be utilised to make money. Wendie can recommend clothing agencies or clothes swapping sites, along with EBay, all of which can make you cash. "One of my clients made a staggering £425.25 out of unwanted clothes, admittedly she did go out and buy accessories and other items, but she still managed to get back what she had spent with me. What new items she did purchase were the right ones to complement her newly pulled together wardrobe". Wendie further added that in addition client's nearly always have items they've purchased when they were feeling adventurous, only to find they don't know how to wear it or what to wear it with. "I can see if these items are suitable, sometimes we can have these clothes altered to ensure a fantastic outfit for little or no cost" Client's also have problems dressing for certain occasions, Wendie will show them how to create different outfits that can be carried through for different occasions from smart work wear to casual everyday wear. She will also address the "clothes for best" issue that some people fall down on. Wendie explained that when clients have tried on lots of difference outfits its can be quite emotional. The picnic lunch break allows them to reflect on how far they have come that day and how their own ideas on what suits them are starting to take shape. At the end of the session Wendie says she ensures that the clothes are all put back into the wardrobe in an order that works for the client. To top it all during the course of the day Wendie will have collected heaps of information on the client. So after the session and within 5 working days they'll be posted their own personalised "style bible" this includes lots of valuable information such as gaps in their wardrobe and where they can further purchase what they may need to complete their look. In addition there will be information on accessories which will compliment their newly pulled together outfits, plus lots of other exciting tips and information which will assist in further enhancing the clients newly acquired sense of style. Furthermore Wendie assures me this is always tailored to fit into each and every client's budget. All this for £170 quid! I've already booked my appointment.................For more information on wardrobe weeding go to http://www.woocandoo.com/ for a downloadable brochure or call 07500 968948.
