This is a very good La Tasca (some are not so good!) Very handy as it stays open late enough to eat after the theatre and has good nearby car park.

It's quite difficult finding a restaurant with the right atmosphere and great food where you can take a toddler - but La Tasca on the Quayside in Newcastle is perfect. The staff are very child friendly and make such a big deal of them. I've been to La Tasca many times for many, many different reasons, and that's what makes it so good. Great for romance, great for a girls' night out, great for the family. The wine list is good, but we usually go for the house white, not because it's the cheapest - but because it's tasty and seems to compliment their extensive menu.

Tapas in the Toon

My friend and I went to La Tasca on a weekday evening around 6pm. The restaurant was fairly quiet with only a few other tables. We were shown to a table straight away and given menus. The waiter was friendly and helped us choose what we were going to eat (we had the big sharing Tapas for two). Given how quiet it was I was suprised that the service was slightly slow, and after the food had arrived we didn't see a waiter for a while so had to ask at the bar for what we needed.I enjoyed the food, but it felt mass produced and seemed as if it was heated in the microwave, unlike traditional tapas I've had in the past.It was good, but overall I felt too expensive for what we'd had. The surroundings and the actual restaurant are lovely.

Tapas for a tenner? Amazing value!

This modern building is in a prime location on Newcastle's bustling Quayside area. You can't miss the brightly coloured outdoor area with its large amount of seating, for those who liek al fresco dining. As you enter La Tasca, the sheer size of the restaurant is breathtaking - not only is it a large area, but the ceilings are very high, and the place is very well decorated in a traditional style. The tapas for a tenner deal was fantastic value: the staff ask you to order and enjoy 3 dishes each from their tapas for a tenner menu, before then ordering as much more as you can manage. The galic mushrooms here are superb, as are the potatoes fried in olive oil, with peppera and onions. Although the tapas for a tenner menu is a smaller, slightly reduced version of the main menu, there really is something on there for everyone - meat eaters and vegetarians alike. The draught lagers are a little expensive, but no more so than any other restaurant on the Quayside. The bottled Spanish cider is lovely, priced at £2.60. La Tasca is my favourite tapas restaurant in Newcastle and I can't wait to visit again!

Tapas for a tenner

Last week me and my girlfriend decided to take up the Tapas for a tenner offer at la tasca, The deal stated it was all you can eat so I was expecting a buffet style situation with the food being a little over cooked ala a Chinese buffet. I was pleasantly surprised when we were given a set menu and asked to select 3 dishes, if we wanted any more we would select more dishes and they would be cooked fresh, although La tasca is not my favourite tapas restaurant in Newcastle I must admit this deal is very good, the only downside was that me and my girlfriend weren't that hungry so we didn't end up eating too much, The food was better than previous visits as well so all in all a positive experience indeed and one that I would recommend if people are looking for a cheap deal.

Spanish Food, Yumm

La Tasca is a Spanish restaurant and a fine one at that. It is located on the quayside which makes it a great place to go to eat, day or night. This Tapas bar is one of my favourites but i've not really been to many before. The food was very appealing and, though not the best meal i've ever eaten, i wouldn't call it a bad experience. It is somewhere good to go with friends in my opinion and i'm sure i'll end up back there one day soon. If you like tapas and are in the Newcastle area then i suggest that you try this place out; it's well worth it.

Busy and a bit salty

La Tasca has a very handy location if you're down on the quayside and out with people from work and other such groups, but its not my first choice of tapas in Newcastle. The menu is decently large, and everything is of a perfectly acceptable standard, but generally I find everything to be a touch greasy, and a bit over garlicky at times. The last time I was in everything was very salty, especially the seafood, which was a bit off putting, but it did seem to be a one off. That said, that could be highly realistic, I've never eaten in Spain!I'm easily confused, and with having two doors into the building, the queuing system can be a bit frantic at times. I and my girlfriend ended up being skipped over by the head waiter (or whom ever was in charge of seating people) and thus ended up waiting for ages, however this was possibly our fault, and I'm sure we could have shouted up and got it sorted easily enough. The good thing is that you can very easily pull up a chair to the bar, order a bottle of wine, and put it all on the same bill once you are seated. I had a very nice bottle of Rioja for a little over a tenner last time. The single room itself is very high, which is great for stopping the place becoming too hot. With all the piping hot cast iron and terracotta dishes flying about it would be all too easy to be far too hot. Despite having loads and loads of room, I always find I'm bumping elbows with other people, but it does add to the busy and friendly atmosphere. The waiting staff must have a hell of a time squeezing through the gaps sometime through.A last note about the loos. They're up the steps near the upper exit door, and a bit of a trek. Just keep heading onwards and upwards, and you'll be fine.

A touch of Spain by the Tyne

Service

With a great location on the Quayside, this restaurant is well worth checking out. It's large (and part of a chain) but doesn't feel too impersonal thanks to the brightly coloured walls and wonderfully eclectic mix of pictures, pottery and other items that adorn them. At lunch time on a Sunday it was fairly busy but it was easy for our group of seven to get a table. The menu consists almost exclusively of tapas and there's a huge range to choose from. The prices are reasonable and the service friendly, although our waiter assumed (wrongly!) that we weren't used to ordering tapas and tried to persuade us to have far more than we could have eaten. Everyone in our rather mixed crowd found something they enjoyed, and the prices were very reasonable - we had enough tapas to make us feel fairly full (plus bread and olives), a beer or wine each, and with service paid just £8 a head. All the dishes we'd picked were a success with our group. I particularly enjoyed the seafood paella and the patatas bravas, which were pretty hot and spicy. The olive and sundried tomato bread was excellent too.
